In 2003, members of Our Savior’s
Lutheran Church recognized the need of low-income
individuals for better paying careers and the need of the community for
trained, screened and caring healthcare workers. Consequently
volunteers of Our Savior’s, with a vision of helping struggling individuals
and families, started St. Luke’s Ministry Nurse Aide Training Program. In 2004
St. Luke’s Ministry (SLM) began offering Nurse Aide training classes to
low-income individuals and single parents.
Please
note that although St. Luke’s Ministry is located in a church and has
volunteers and staff related to the church, there is no religious
component whatsoever for students involved in our program.
We
care about
each student’s personal success. SLM’s priority is personal service—we are not successful as a program
until all of our graduates pass their State Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) Exam and are working
successfully as CNAs.
CNAs
are employed by nursing homes,
assisted living facilities, hospitals and home health agencies. New
CNAs normally start between $11 and $12 an hour and can earn over $15 an
hour with experience. Our graduates have a bright future, since
there will be very high demand for CNAs and other healthcare professionals
over the next decade and beyond.
