immigrant support program

A large percentage of those interested in becoming Nurse Aides speak a first language other than English.  At St. Luke’s Ministry, we have seen first-hand that many highly-motivated individuals are willing to complete the extra review/practice that they need to pass the certification exam and become excellent Certified Nurse Aides.

Our Immigrant Support Program provides additional, individualized support to immigrants and non-native English speakers who either:

  • Are enrolled in our Nurse Aide training program, or
  • Have graduated from another Nurse Aide training program, did not pass the Nurse Aide certification exam on their first attempt, and have chosen to participate in our support services.

St. Luke's Ministry Nurse Aide Training ProgramA trainee has only three chances to pass the Nurse Aide certification exam before they must repeat the entire training course.  Given the time and expense involved, retaking the Nurse Aide training is rarely a realistic option.

The certification exam includes both written and hands-on skills tests.  To pass the exam, trainees must have a strong working knowledge of fairly specialized medical/anatomical terminology.  The Nurse Aide training course is intense, and without additional support, we have found that a large percentage of non-native English speakers have a difficult time keeping up and later struggle to pass the certification exam.

This Immigrant Support Program is made possible through funding generously provided by Wheat Ridge Ministries.
